San Pedro's Festivity (2000) in San Pedro de Atacama

In the early 2000’s I was researching the musical cultures in the San Pedro de Atacama village located in the Atacama desert in the north of Chile. I traveled there many times, met terrific people, collected stories, and recorded hours of performances by local musicians. I took these pictures in June 2000 during the festivity dedicated to the town’s “Santo Patrono” and depict the local dance groups known as “El Negro”, “El Torito,” y “Catimbanos,” from the localities of Sequitor and Solor.
